NOISIΛ "Outer Edges" (Album Cover)
Noisia, sometimes stylized as NOISIΛ (which is VISION flipped upside down), is a Dutch electronic music trio consisting of members Nik Roos, Martijn van Sonderen and Thijs de Vlieger from Groningen, Netherlands. They were founded in 2002 and produce a wide variety of electronic music including, but not limited to: drum & bass, dubstep, breakbeat and house. They own three record companies: Vision, Division and Invisible Recordings. More often than not, they will collaborate with other electronic musicians such as Black Sun Empire, Phace, Evol Intent and Foreign Beggars.
CHALLENGE
NOISIA is looking for a new cover design for their latest album "Outer Edges" which launches Octobor of this year. The main challenge here was making it look authentic as well as gathering resources to make the composite. The secondary challenge(s) include choosing a fitting theme for the album.
SOLUTION
First thing I did was look at other Noisia covers. I really liked the designs between their singles (released under their Vision Recordings company), so I would follow that design. Their latest album is called “Outer edges” and what immediately came to mind with this name is a design involving earth’s Karman line; with that being said, I searched for NASA pictures of the Karman line. Once I found the image that would originally be the main image to mix with the graphics; this changed when I pulled up one of Noisia’s press kit images. I put this together using a lot of shape layers (that were constructed in illustrator and ultimately had to rasterize), clipping masks, layer masks, and smart objects. Once everything fell into place, and the design was completed, I added in the copyright information, barcodes, and track list and ultimately dubbed the project complete.
