Container Corporation of America is a well-known company whom specialized in manufacturing corrugated or custom cardboard boxes for other business’ products. They advertise using famous quotes from philosophers such as Rene Descartes.
CHALLENGE
The challenges I faced with this was finding a quote and and building around the essence of the quote. This challenge was initially countered by just looking at some famous philosophers and political figures I liked.
SOLUTION
I approached the problem by selecting Rene Descartes’ famous “I think therefore I am” quote. I captured the essence of the quote via use of juxtaposition. On one side we have a silhouette of the human head with no features other than a brain to illustrate emptiness and thought – the “I think” part of Rene’s quote and the other side features facial features that represent existence or rather the “I AM” part of the quote. The illustration itself is held together by the “Therefore” which acts as a fulcrum or balancing point for the illustration. The arrangement of the type reads out “I am therefore I think” purposely to make the viewer think about what they are looking at.
